Tips to get a normal life after a heart attack

Most people can return to work and do the activities they enjoy a few months after suffering a heart attack. Others will have to limit their activity if the heart muscle is very weak. The amount of activity you can do will be based on the condition of your heart. Your doctor will work with you to develop a recovery plan.

Heart attack

Need to start slowly. In the early days after his heart attack, you may need to rest and let your heart heal. As your heart healthy you’ll be ready to start moving again. A few days after the heart attack, your doctor may want you to move more. You can do stretching exercises and get up and walk. Slowly become more active, as recommended by your doctor.

Once you have gone through the initial period after a heart attack, your doctor will talk about being active within their limitations. Your doctor may do an exercise test, also called a stress test. During this exam, your doctor will ask you to exercise, usually walking on a stationary machine called treadmill while he or she monitors your heart. Your doctor will develop an exercise plan for you based on the results of this test.

Your doctor may recommend that you get a rehabilitation program. Rehabilitation programs are supervised by exercise specialists. Many hospitals sponsor these programs to help people start a safe exercise program after a heart attack. Over time, you can probably work out on their own. But if you have any of the symptoms listed in the table below, call your doctor. You may be working too hard.
